About WTI Crude Oil

West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is a light, sweet crude oil that serves as the primary benchmark for oil pricing in North America. It is extracted from oil fields in Texas, North Dakota, and Louisiana, and delivered to Cushing, Oklahoma, the major crude oil storage hub.

WTI futures trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) under the ticker CL. Each contract represents 1,000 barrels. The front-month contract is the most actively traded and serves as the reference price quoted in financial media.

WTI is classified as “light” because of its low density and “sweet” because of its low sulfur content, making it ideal for refining into gasoline and other high-value products.
