Oil Market & United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates is a major OPEC oil producer, with Abu Dhabi's Murban crude serving as a regional benchmark. UAE export revenues are closely tied to Brent prices, and the country has invested heavily in downstream refining capacity.
Classified here as a opec member state, United Arab Emirates trades against the Dubai/Oman average, with Brent for westbound cargoes. That is the pricing reference the sections below work from — the headline Brent number quoted at the top of this page is the global marker, not necessarily the price United Arab Emirates settles at.

Crude oil is only part of what drivers in United Arab Emirates pay. Fuel duty, VAT, refining and distribution costs sit on top of the Brent benchmark. These pages break the pump price down component by component.

United Arab Emirates is an OPEC member, which means its production is subject to a group quota rather than set purely by field capacity and price. Quota decisions taken at OPEC and OPEC+ ministerial meetings therefore move the Brent price and United Arab Emirates's own export volumes at the same time — and the two do not always pull revenue in the same direction. A cut that lifts the benchmark can leave total receipts flat if the volume reduction offsets the price gain.
Official selling prices for Asian buyers are set as a differential to the Dubai/Oman average, while cargoes heading west are priced against Brent. The Brent–Dubai spread therefore steers which direction barrels flow.
United Arab Emirates runs refining capacity at export scale. That changes the exposure profile completely: the country buys crude and sells products, so what matters is the refining margin — the crack spread between the crude it takes in and the gasoline, diesel and jet it ships out — rather than the crude price on its own. A high Brent price with wide cracks can be a better outcome here than cheap crude with collapsed margins.
Crude is invoiced in US dollars, so buyers in United Arab Emirates face two prices at once: the Brent price and the AED exchange rate. A weakening AED raises the local cost of a barrel even when Brent is flat, which is why domestic fuel prices in currency-exposed markets often fail to fall when the benchmark does. The reference rate used in the estimates on this site is 3.67 AED per USD.
